This is the eighth in a series of articles about Online Business Success. If your website uses the right Keywords, then your website will become more popular among those people who use those words to search on the internet. As we’ve discussed in previous articles:
- Keywords are the words people search with – what they type into the search box.
- Learning about Keyword searches in your niche is the most important thing you can learn.

Perhaps more importantly Keyword search data tells you what precise words need to be used on your website, or in your blog, articles, press releases, forum posting, and so on.
For example, we know for a fact that the Keywords that are searched for most often are the exact ones you would expect: Health, Money, Love, Sex, and so on. Google can tell you the number of times various word and phrase variations are used. How many times do people search for “how to make money” compared to “make income from home” or “start an internet business?”
The answers to these questions can be critical, and they can tell you where the most interest is within your business niche. They can tell you how to phrase the content of your website in order to attract visitors who are interested in what you are selling.
- Visitors from search engines are called “website traffic” and this is often considered the most important figure in the success of an internet business.
- Proper use of keywords is what gets traffic to your website.
- Search engine traffic to your website doesn’t cost you anything in advertising costs and thus is the best way to get website visitors.
- Search engine traffic also is the best because they are people who have come to your website specifically looking for something you sell.
Before writing this article I did extensive research on Keyword search phrases that are important for the niche that I work in. I researched terms like:
- “how to make money online”
- “work from home”
- “start an internet business”
How did I pick my niche? Well, here are the reasons I chose this niche:
- I already knew that this was a general area where there is a lot of interest, a very high demand for information, and a great need on the part of many people looking for an income.
- Also that demand is likely to grow in the future due to economic conditions.
- It also fits perfectly with my background and interests, since I’m an attorney and CPA with an MBA and have been a business consultant for 27 years.
- I also know from both personal and professional experience that there is great need on the internet for better providers of information, and better information.
- In addition, I had discovered (much to my chagrin) that people were being subjected to scams and dishonest marketers when they were starting out attempting to make money online.
Because there are a lot of incompetent and possibly dishonest people selling “get rich quick” and “make easy money from home” products on the internet, this area fit the requirements of a business I should get into. There is growing demand and a limited supply of quality service and information providers. My Keyword research gave me all the information I needed to pick a niche, and to choose the right search engine terms.
You can do the same type of thing I did. With the special niches you’ve uncovered within your areas of interest you just have to match your skills, interests, and experience with areas of demand and growing need.
- There are free tools as well as sophisticated, somewhat costly tools you can use to do this kind of detailed Keyword market research.
- It is critically important to do this research, but also important to know its limits. In other words, it can’t tell you everything you need to know. It’s a great place to start, however.
