Maximize Searches

Have you ever thought about taking a chartered fishing trip? Or wanted to make home made baklava? Or wondered how a steam engine works? These things are all inquiries that could be type into a search engine. Knowing how to use a search engine seems like basic knowledge these days but few people really utilize search engines to their full potential. Here are a few tips on maximizing your searching experience.

Did you know it is possible to type in an entire question into the search field of Google or another such program? For example, what if you were sick and wanted to know if a specific remedy was affective? You could type out “will St. John’s Wart help my head cold?” into the search field and see what comes up. Asking a search engine specific questions yields very specific answers. This may sound like a no brainer but I didn’t figure this out until just recently.

Also, when working with Google, the search results that come up on the right hand of the page are paid rankings. A company uses the services of an internet marketing company like Orange Soda to pay for hits for certain commonly searched for terms. For instance, if you were searching for the terms “local restaurant reviews” the links that come up on the right side of the page are paid hits. This doesn’t mean they’re less relevant, it just means that they are paid searches and not organic results like the hits on the left.
